The old town of Whitby has numerous arts and craft galleries. There are old fashioned and modern tearooms and many different restaurants offering traditional and exotic fayre.
Visit the numerous pubs and bars in the vicinity of our holiday cottage location and all on your doorstep. There is a nearby Rowing Club which allows entry free of charge. The Rowing Club offers you cheap prices for well kept beers and drinks. They also have the benefit of a hidden, sheltered beer garden. This overlooks the harbour and the fishing boats on the East side of the river. There are also many curios shops virtually on your doorstep.
The 199 steps to Whitby Abbey
The famous 199 steps to Whitby Abbey are just 100 metres away if you’ve got the energy to climb them. The views the top offer you fantastic views of the whole of Whitby, the harbour, nearby Sandsend village and the spectacular North Sea. The climb to the top is well worth it on a nice day and even in bad weather it still offers amazing views out to sea.
Take a picnic to the top and enjoy it on the cliff top after possibly visiting Whitby Abbey ruins. You can also walk this way to the nearby Robin Hoods Bay along the coastal pathway. It’s approx. 6 miles and if you don’t want to walk back into Whitby then there’s always the bus. Whatever you decide to do our cottage offers you a great base to explore from.
