Some of the many walks around Whitby offer spectacular views.

Both of our rental cottages in Whitby offer exceptional holiday accommodation, style, cleanliness, and value for money.

Whitby is contained within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park close to the nearby resorts of Sandsend, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough.

These self-catering cottages are well maintained by us, the owners, Mike & Louise, for that extra personal touch. Our cottages in Yorkshire offer you that perfect home from home whether it be for a family gathering or a romantic getaway for couples wanting to be alone.

Our all inclusive price includes gas, electricity, central heating, hot water and all bedding. Welcome tea, coffee, milk and sugar provided.
Beds are already pre-made for your arrival so you can relax right from walking in the door.

We do not charge you any booking fees whatsoever and everything above is included in our 'all in one' price for the cottage.
Take a walk onto Whitby's twin piers and enjoy the view.
Whitby harbour is still a 'working' harbour. Many Fishermen still earn their living this way today.

Whitby harbourside at night
is a great place to enjoy a fantastic atmosphere with many exceptional restaurants, pubs and tavernas.

There is always something happening in Whitby.

The numerous restaurants including Thai, Indian, Italian, not forgetting traditional fayre that are located all around the harbour side will ensure that you don't have far to walk to get really good food.

The rugged coastline provides a fascinating panorama of small sandy coves, interspersed with the sea cliffs which rise some 600ft. to meet the moorland.

Huddled at the base of some of these cliffs, or precariously perched on the cliff sides exist some unique fishing villages and old smuggling centres.

Places such as Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood's Bay, offer striking comparison to the moorland villages such as Goathland (famous as Aidensfield Village in Heartbeat), Danby or Castleton, where sheep and curlew are sometimes one's only company. All are within extremely easy reach of Whitby.

The coastline which stretches for miles is very rugged formed by the battering of the sea over the centuries.

Take a walk up the famous '199 steps'. These take you to St Mary's Church and also to the ruins of Whitby Abbey shown in this photo.

There is a galaxy of historic abbeys, monasteries, priories and castles within the area while sections of the original Roman Road still remain on the moor, as well as many moorland crosses, which acted as traveller's signposts, passing points or centres of religious ceremony in days gone by.

Just inland is the beautiful North Yorks Moors National Park, the perimeter of which is easily accessible from a network of major roads. However, once within the park's 550 square miles of forests and wild moorland which rises to a plateau height of 1000ft there is a magical air of peace, quietness and solitude.

In cultivated valleys, small streams meander to meet the River Esk through tiny hamlets. To the nature lover, the moor and coast offer a spectacle of scenic views, secluded picnic spots and a variety of nature trails for observation of plant life, birds and animals.

The historic fishing village of Whitby,
with its magnificent beach, safe bathing and varied holiday pastimes, is situated in a prime position on the North Yorkshire Coast.

Eat fish and chips, take a donkey ride, enjoy a fishing or pleasure boat trip from the harbour or maybe just enjoy the hustle and bustle of this lively town.

Some of the lobster pots or 'creels' as they are locally known.

Fishing can be enjoyed at sea, from the River Esk and reservoirs.

Many local fishermen offer pleasure boat trips or fishing parties departing from Whitby harbour daily at really affordable prices.

There are a number of horse-riding establishments and golf courses in the vicinity.

Steam locomotives of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway can carry you through the unique ice-age valleys of the National Park whilst inland and in Whitby itself, local craftsmen still produce take-home souvenirs such as wood carving, pottery, jet jewellery, paintings and craft items.

You can see the Steam Trains passing regularly from our Riverside Cottage, it's like taking a trip back down Memory Lane back into an era sadly no longer with us.

Take a ride on the Whitby to Pickering Steam Train. It takes you back in time to those bygone years.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is the country’s most popular heritage railway. The 18-mile line runs through the beautiful North York Moors National Park, between the market town of Pickering and the
village of Grosmont.

If you or your children have never travelled on an old Steam Train
then now's your chance to do it.

This is the Steam Train route. Enjoy a 'part' ride and walk back or take the whole journey and enjoy the country side and views and maybe a day in Pickering or a stop on the way.

From Riverside Cottage you can regularly see the old Steam Train passing by on its frequent journey into Whitby Station

Goathland Station
Famous as Aidensfield in Emmerdale Farm and also Hogsmeade, has a refurbished Warehouse Tea Room with authentic furniture and artefacts. Restored coal drops and a cattle dock.

Newton Dale Halt
Is a walkers’ request stop with excellent walks and beautiful scenery.

Levisham Station
Is set in the scenic Newton Dale. This is an ideal stop for walking the local area with a wide variety of wildlife and flowers within a short distance of the station.

Pickering Station
Was restored to its 1937 condition with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Original features and fittings have been installed in the Booking and Parcels Offices,Tea Room, and the shop which provides a wide range of gifts, books and videos.
