Awd Tut (Old Tom) was a fisherman and the owner of this Whitby cottage in the 1800s. He lived here for many years with his family. You can see Awd Tut in the sepia photo below taken at the turn of the century. Our cottage, now a Grade Two, 17th century listed building was originally built in 1640 and used as a fisherman’s home for many years. The cottage was not maintained however and became a derelict, run-down building in the 1970s when it was in danger of being torn down as unsafe by the local council. Fortunately, a modern-day descendant of Awd Tut who didn’t want to see the cottage demolished, bought it and rebuilt it as it would have been a shame for the building to simply disappear.
By booking this cottage you will enjoy 2 good sized bedrooms which sleep up to 5 persons in total. The Master bedroom having the benefit of ensuite facilities with a large walk in power shower. The 2nd bedroom is on the same floor as the main bathroom allowing guests their own separate facilities if required. You will enjoy a comfortable lounge area complete with a large flat screen TV. We have Skysat viewing and FREE unlimited fibre broadband Wi-Fi access. We boast a fully kitted kitchen with all mod cons supplied.
A multi-room cottage is far better value per person than staying in a single hotel room and we are located right in the heart of the bustling streets of Whitby’s ‘old town’
