Car Parking in Whitby

Awd Tuts Cottage is situated in Whitby ‘Old Town’ which was mainly built in the 16th & 17th centuries.
Obviously, 400 years ago, horses and carts were the sole transport of the day, and therefore, due to the physical size of the old cobbled streets car parking may require some consideration. Some free parking is allowed on Church Street, 150 metres from the cottage.

The nearest ‘Pay and Display’ car park is also on Church Street, the same distance away. You can drive to within 10 metres of the cottage and park up for short periods to 'drop-off' and 'pick-up' etc, but parking for long periods is not allowed on roads in the old town. Ample free parking can be found on West Cliff and you may find it convenient to leave your vehicle there for longer periods.

If you cannot find any free parking, car passes can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre

on Langbourne Road Whitby. (Tel 01723 383636)

Please note:

If you buy a pass, say for 2 days, the pass is ALSO VALID on the day of issue, FREE.
e.g. a 2 day pass bought on Saturday, for Sunday & Monday, would be valid for the whole 3 days.

Normally, logically thinking, a £5 per day pass for 7 days should cost you £35

BUT - TO SAVE YOU MONEY

buying 2 day passes for the following 2 days (your day of issue being free) you would only spend £20 to £25 for the whole week. SO....Buying passes for the shorter durations are therefore the cheapest way to park in the ‘Pay & Display’ car parks.

Please note also -
-
to save you even more money:

  • The passes bought from the TOURIST INFORMATION in Whitby allow you ALSO to park (at no extra charge) in any of the following areas Council Car Parks throughout the borough:
  • Scarborough
  • Whitby
  • Filey
  • Runswick Bay
  • Robin Hoods Bay
  • Staithes - and many others too
