Awd Tut himself & his family in 1901

The photograph above is of the Dryden family and was taken at the landward end of Tate Hill Pier in Whitby Lower Harbour.
The young girl on the left is Jane Elizabeth or 'Jinnie'. She is leaning against her father, Tom (Awd Tut) whose hand is resting on his son William's shoulder.

In the basket is John Robert, born on 9th January 1901 (died 20th May 1960). The basket is being held by his mother Mary Ann and sitting behind her on the harbour rail is Tom or 'Young Tut'. John Robert later gained the nickname 'Stow' or 'Stowaway' by stowing away, at the age of five on the trawler on which his father was a crew member. You can read about him on the 'History' page of this site.
