Car Parking in Whitby Town Centre & The 'Old Town'
Whitby Old Town was mainly built in the 16th & 17th centuries. Obviously, over 400 years ago, horses and carts were the sole transport of the day, and therefore, due to the physical size of the old cobbled streets, car parking is not allowed there. Some free parking is allowed on Church Street upriver from the 'Fleece Pub'. Ample free parking can be found on West Cliff (depending upon season) and you may find it convenient to leave your vehicle there for longer periods when visiting the town centre. If you cannot find any free parking, car passes can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre on Langbourne Road Whitby. (Tel 01947-602674). Near Train Station. PLEASE NOTE: If you buy a pass, say for 2 days, the pass is ALSO VALID on the day of issue, FREE. e.g. a 2 day pass bought on Monday, for Tuesday & Wednesday, would be valid for the whole 3 days. Buying passes for the shorter duration is therefore the cheapest way to park in the Pay & Display car parks.
