Awd Tuts Cottage - a Grade 2 listed building - 369 years old

Awd Tuts Cottage, was built in 1640 when Charles the 1st sat on the throne of England.
Charles who was later executed by beheading never even had the chance to stay in our cosy cottage - pity!

On the 30 January 1648, Charles was taken to a scaffold built outside Whitehall Palace. Troopers on horseback
kept the crowds some distance from the scaffold, and it is unlikely that many people heard the speech that he
made just before his head was cut off with one swing of the axe.

Awd Tuts Cottage however, whilst being from the same historic era now offers old
world charm by the harbourside,
in the cobbled centre of old Whitby town.

Enjoy the character of this ancient Grade 2 listed building at its very best. The cottage is 370 years old - imagine its old life
as a humble dwelling of the fisherfolk that helped mould Whitby into the bustling town it is today. Four Star rated accommodation.

Whitby is dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century Whitby Abbey. This traditional maritime seaside town, with itsold cobbled streets, picturesque houses and sandy blue flag beach is a great place for a holiday or short break,

Whitby is set among fine stretches of coast with spectacular cliffs, beaches and bays. A selection of diverse attractions includes the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, Victorian Jet Works the Dracula Experience, Pannett Park and Whitby Museum, with cabinets of curiosities from geology to jet carving, birdlife to bygones and costumes to clocks. Ideal for walking holidays and also near to Whitby Golf Course.

For food connoisseurs, Whitby has it all. Award winning seafood restaurants, continental delights, traditional sea-shanty inns preparing locally cooked produce and olde worlde English tea rooms serving freshly baked pastries and Yorkshire teas.

199 steps lead down from the Abbey to the old town where you find yourself in a shoppers' paradise. With an array of unique shops offering local crafts, famous Whitby Jet jewellery, maritime memorabilia and antiques, you are sure to find that holiday treasure.

Try the Old Steam Train on The ESK VALLEY LINE.

Both cottages are perfectly situated to travel and explore the Emmerdale villages of Aidensfield and Goathland

This is widely considered to be one of the hidden gems of the British railway network. It offers a succession of constant surprises and stunning views along its 36 mile run to and from the traditional Yorkshire fishing port of Whitby. Tickets readily available.

Starting at the historic railway station in the centre of the North Yorkshire port and resort of Whitby, it runs through the picturesque landscapes and countryside of the valley of the River Esk, passing through well-kept stations and on to Grosmont, where it connects with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR).

The journey then continues through a succession of small communities on its way through the North York Moors National Park to the isolated station of Battersby, on the edge of the moors. The train reverses here and continues to the heart of the vibrant city of Middlesbrough.

Visit an Esk Valley village. Take tea or lunch at Danby (40 minutes from Whitby). Maybe try Kildale (35 minutes from Middlesbrough) or another Esk Valley village . . . the choice is yours!
